NYC: A DESIGNERS' GUIDE

This week I’m in the Big Apple for my NYC launch of CLOSET DESIGN BIBLE, and I’m soaking up all the energy and inspiration that inevitably comes with a visit here. I don’t have time to make it to my favorites or to check out all the hot new haunts, but in the spirit of being here, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite design-driven hotels, restaurants, boutiques and cultural attractions across the city’s top neighborhoods.

Lower East Side

Hotel: The Ludlow Hotel  -- Adorned with factory-style casement windows, red-brick facade  and a lofty industrial vibe, this gritty-meets-chic boutique hotel feels quintessentially NYC.

Restaurant: Russ & Daughters --  For a classic NYC-style bagel and lox breakfast, this fourth generation, family-owned eatery and shop delivers the ultimate East Coast deli experience with classic counters and wood serving platters.

Boutique: Moscot -- This 100+ year old eyewear boutique is the go-to spectacle shop for those in-the-know. Blending traditional with a hipster edge, getting glasses and shades here is a true NYC experience only enhanced by the cool, vintage displays.

Cultural attraction: Tenement Museum -- A National Historic Site, the Museum's two historical tenement buildings were home to an estimated 15,000 people, from over 20 nations, between 1863 and 2011. Tours spotlight apartments that recreate immigrant life in the 19th and 20th centuries, which give you a new appreciation of small spaces, even by today’s standards!

Midtown

Hotel:  The Whitby -- From the famed Kit Kemp, The Whitby is impeccably designed, fusing contemporary design with traditional elements. And, the location can’t be beat with Central Park, museums and world-class shopping steps away.

170221_f_w_room1407_0518_lowres.jpg

Restaurant: The Polo Bar -- Even after being open a few years, this is still a hot ticket in town. The food is excellent and the Ralph Lauren decor, inclusive of plaid pillows, equestrian artifacts and mahogany walls, is even better.

Store: Bergdorf Goodman -- Chloe, Gucci, Prada...oh my! It doesn’t get better than this iconic multi-level store that was established in 1899 and maintains many of its original details.  The stunningly-designed retail institution features everything from gowns to sportswear to home decor. And, the shoe department alone is a sight to be seen!

Cultural attraction: The Museum of Modern Art is a midtown-must! In addition to featuring incredible art, the MoMa store is the best place to scoop up cool finds and unique gifts.

SoHo

Hotel: 11 Howard -- This cutting-edge Scandinavian designed hotel has my heart. From the clean lines to the bathroom’s marble countertops and brass hardware to the cozy, perfectly-pink throw blanket, this place is a design-dream! PSA: You can purchase the blanket which makes a great throw!

Restaurant: Le Coucou -- It’s no coincidence one of my favorite downtown restaurants is located in 11 Howard. Though grand and glamorous, this lavish, candle-lit French eatery feels totally intimate.

Boutique: The Apartment by The Line -- SoHo is dotted with incredible shopping, but one of my must-visits is this unique concept store that you enter through an unsumming door. Head upstairs and find an impeccably designed apartment with every item for sale. Modern rugs, lighting, candles and clothes are styled to a T.

Cultural attraction: Jeffery Deitch Gallery -- The founder of Deitch Projects, Jeffery is a staple in the art community. I adore his curation of provocative pop-culture pieces that always make a powerful statement and his gallery is always a fun experience.

West Village

Hotel: The Jane -- Originally built as a hotel for sailors with cabin-like rooms, this bohemian boutique hotel transports you back in time, while offering a refreshingly timeless experience.

Restaurant: Waverly Inn -- This exclusive townhouse-style eatery owned by media mogul Graydon Carter, is the perfect place to enjoy a cozy meal. The low-lighting and lots of little tchotchkes are all part of the homey ambiance.

Boutique: Aedes Perfumery -- This niche shop stocks the best fragrances in the world. Not only does it smell amazing, the moody, almost gothic space brings together the best small and unknown perfumers from around the globe.

Cultural attraction: The Whitney Museum -- Not far from the Village, the Whitney has become one of the world's leading museums of 20th-century and contemporary art, exhibiting promising and influential artists. The building itself is rather sterile, but the views from the top are some of the best in the city!

Williamsberg

Hotel: Williamsburg Hotel -- Nostalgia meets modern at this hip Brooklyn hotel. A mix of design details like architectural fixtures, artwork from locals and custom toile-inspired Flavor Paper wallpaper designed by Mike Diamond of the Beastie Boys, makes for a memorable stay. And, not to mention, the rooms’ floor-to-ceiling 10-foot window views of Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Restaurant: Lilia -- A visit to NYC wouldn’t be complete without an indulgent Italian feast and this is just the place to do it. The modern, monochromatic space shows a bit of restraint, while still feeling comfortable and intimate. Reservations are tough to get, so pan ahead!

Boutique: Bird -- This longrunning shopping staple first opened in 1999, pioneering stylish storefronts in Brooklyn. The store makes you feel like you’re enveloped in nature with wood-paneled walls and plenty of plants. In addition to being the first LEED-certified retail store in NYC, this is the place to find of-the-moment-fashion from designers like Isabel Marant and Rachel Comey.

Cultural attraction: Brooklyn Botanic Gardens -- Just a short cab, Uber or bike ride away, this beloved Brooklyn attraction is the best place to wander and enjoy the expansive outdoors. With acres of beautiful and unique plants and flowers, the gardens are a reminder that nature is near, even in this urban concrete jungle.

SUMMER STARTER KIT

With the Summer travel season upon us, I'm looking for ways to pack smarter! Warmer temps mean packing lighter, but you can still be prepared for any occasion if you're strategic about the items you bring along. I'm in Bailey Island, Maine for the holiday weekend, and my LA Move Mobile Closet is packed with some of my favorite summer staples!

Staging with Separates

I start by staging a few of my favorite summer separates! When packing for a short trip, I always try to choose pieces I can wear multiple ways! With patterned separates, I can mix and play with different looks, without the fuss of an overstuffed bag.

BC2CAA13-EB21-47DB-9875-75D5C7CAF831.JPG

Protect your Precious Cargo

Travel can be hard for your fashionable accessories, and it's important to take the extra steps to protect these pieces and avoid unnecessary wear! Stuff your handbags with smaller clothing items (socks, etc) to keep them from getting crushed in your carry-on -- this is also a clever way to maximize space in your suitcase. Don't forget the dust bags! Shoes, leather goods, and sunnies should all be protected before a long flight. There's nothing worse than arriving on vacation with a broken/scratched pair of sunnies!

Packing like a Pro

The perfect bag can make packing a breeze! For short trips, nothing beats my LA Move! It does a lot of the work for me, making it easier to pack smaller accessories without fear of causing damage in transit, and keeps everything neatly organized for an easy arrival at my destination. I don't even have to unpack - simply hang up the bag and head for the beach!

SUMMER SOLE-STICE

Sandal Season Has Arrived

Well, hello, summer! Today is officially the longest day of the year and I, for one, am ready for some fun in the sun. To celebrate summer solstice and start the season on the right foot,  I’m rounding up some of my favorite warm weather “soles.” Living in LA, one can’t have enough sandals -- sleek slides, embellished thongs, ankle strap heels all have a place in my wardrobe. Here’s a selection from Net-a-Porter that caught my eye this year:

shoes1.jpg
shoes2.jpg
shoes3.jpg

Alaia Bombe Studded Satin Sandals

Totally splurge-worthy and in the season’s hottest hue, these luxe yellow satin ankle strap flats scream summer.

Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Leather Slides

Bottega’s signature butter-soft leather woven technique makes its way to these pretty peach slides that are perfect for going to a girl’s brunch or a family BBQ.

Chloe Qassie Leather Sandals

Block heels are great for summer; they’re comfortable enough to shuffle between meetings and yet still dressy. I love this pair with a cool hammered heel. Not to mention, they’re on sale!

Gianvito Rossi Portofino 105 Leather Sandals

I’m a sucker for strappy blush tone sandals, and these ankle strap stunners from one of my favorite footwear designers work with jeans and a blazer as well as they do with a floral midi dress.

Gucci Embellished Grosgrain-Trimmed Leather Sandals

There’s no better way to “kick off” summer than with these Gucci beauties! The ultimate sandal eye candy, I like how these feel modern, yet are adorned with the label's iconic webbing and signature grosgrain bow for a touch of vintage.

Rene Caovilla Crystal-Embellished Leather Sandals

Thongs get a chic upgrade with this pretty pearl pair that’s inspired by Venice and the city's architecture. Get ready for the constant compliments in these!

Saint Laurent Woven Leather Slides

I’m currently living in these stylish slides. Versatile and comfy they are the ultimate summer staple.

Valentino Garavani Moonwalk Studded Leather and PVC Sandals

Rockstuds are officially a fixture in fashion and I’m liking this casual take on the studded staple. Bonus: they’re on sale!

Pro tip:

Storing your shoes -- whether archiving winter shoes or organizing the sandals in your regular summer rotation -- is critical to keeping them looking good and extending their life. I recommend boot trees to help your winter warriors stay upright and shoe inserts for pumps, sneakers and sandals.

OLIVIA CULPO

LACD x Olivia Culpo

CULPO7.jpg

Olivia's LA loft gets a high-fashion closet facelift, giving new meaning to Hollywood glam! With pull-out shelves for shoes, and floating open shelving throughout for displaying bags and accessories, the closet allows Olivia to showcase her favorite pieces and merchandise the space for any given occasion.

Since the loft is so open, it is important that the closet can remain tidy at all times. To achieve this, all of the hanging is kept behind full-height mirror doors, which not only glam up the design, but also bring additional light into the previously dark corner of the home.

CULPO11.jpg
CULPO10.jpg
CULPO3.jpg
CULPO16.jpg

Previously, Olivia's loft was severely lacking in storage space, which didn't work for her busy lifestyle. Having a space for everything, and an organized system in place will make packing and putting together looks so much easier for her. The closet incorporates white marble countertops for folding and laying out items.

CULPO18.jpg
CULPO17.jpg

Possibly my favorite detail in the new dressing room, the crystal knobs add a sparkly touch of old Hollywood sophistication to the otherwise simple and modern design!

SHAPE UP FOR SUMMER

IMG_7677.JPG

With Spring in full swing, it's time to start thinking about your Summer swimsuit bod! To get us all moving again, I decided to reach out to my close friend, and Barry's Bootcamp Trainer extraordinaire, Chris Tye-Walker!

He offered up some pro-tips for putting together your home workout routine, regardless of schedule or budget (no excuses!) as well as some insight into the ways he stays organized at home to streamline his workout routine.

See the full Q+A below!

Q: What are a few basic workout essentials everyone should have?

"The first thing you need is a good attitude."

"You don't need any special equipment to have a workout at home - a yoga mat, a great outfit. If you look good, you feel good! There are so many great full-body workouts online that you can stream, and you really don't need equipment to see results. Having a decent set of dumbbells is great, but a lack of proper gym equipment is no excuse to skip a workout!"

Q: What are some of the ways you stay active?

"I play tennis, run track, stairs, teach classes at Barry's. Fitness is my full-time job!"

IMG_4777.JPG
IMG_7676.JPG

Q: How do you stay motivated to work out regularly?

"It's very difficult, as a trainer, to stay motivated. After a full day of teaching classes, I don't want to go home and work out again, I want to hang out and eat cookies! Having a training partner who will keep you accountable is really key."

Q: What are you current favorite workout sneakers?

"Lululemon makes all my favorite gear. APL is a fantastic source for footwear! I'm also loving the Saucony ISO-series lightweight running shoes right now!"

FF748475-6557-4C35-B33F-7EFAA13AEDBB.JPG
2DA9B1B7-3032-4D80-906E-5C44E11E34C4.JPG

Q: What's the best at-home full-body workout routine?

"You want to do a full-body hit circuit. Upper-body, lower-body, and abs.

IMG_4571.jpg

Start with push-ups (30 seconds), move on to some squat jumps (30 seconds), and then into a basic plank (30 seconds). Repeat these exercises one right after the next - this will give each area of your body a 30-second recovery as you continue to workout at your maximum level!"

Q: How can you tailor your fitness routine to your lifestyle?

"Have a planned hour in the day that you’re going to  take time for yourself, go workout, and regroup. If you haven’t scheduled that time and blocked it out, something will always come up during the day."

Q: How does keeping your gear organized help you stay on track?

"Look good, feel good - your favorite outfits should be clean and ready to go the night before - everything has to be out and prepped ready to go, because getting up early and in a time crunch can be daunting. If all my gear is out and ready to go, the morning routine is that much easier!"

"Being organized also holds you accountable. If everything is ready, you have no excuse."

Q: How/Why did you start your Tread Series?

"Tread Series was created for the everyday athlete - for all the people who can’t afford the luxury of a personal trainer."

"With the Tread Series, everyone in the world has access to a precise, and well structured workout that is safe and effective. It's a half-hour workout, and lets you knock out 500 calories and get on with your day. Whether you're the busy professional or the single mom with 3 kids, this workout is designed for people who don’t have hours to spend in the gym."

Q: As a trainer, how do you keep Lisa motivated?

"Lisa is so good at showing up in the morning, and is really a self-starter in that way. But again, having someone to hold you accountable with little texts and reminders to get your butt out of bed never hurts!"

IMG_7675.JPG

Q: What does your dream closet look like?

"One designed by Lisa Adams, obviously!"

"Every T-shirt on a hanger, everything hanging color coordinated, whites-lights-darks..."

"Everything clean, organized, hanging, so I can see what I have..."

"A nice mirror, of course!"

"Simple, clean, and plenty of space for sneakers."

DESIGNER DIGS: ANINE BING

ANINE BING

DESIGNER / GIRLBOSS

As many of you know, I often look to designer boutiques for closet inspiration! These spaces reflect an ideal balance of aesthetics and function, and attention is paid to every detail so as to ensure an enjoyable experience. Designers are constantly revamping these spaces to keep up with their current collections and current inspirations, so I thought why not go straight to the source?! Enter Anine Bing, CEO and Designer for her namesake label, who let me pick her brain about style and organization, and opened up her home for an exclusive look at the most personal of merchandised spaces - her closet.

HOW DOES YOUR CLOSET REFLECT YOUR STYLE AS A DESIGNER?

"It's all aligned and reflective of who I am as a designer and person... my taste.

It's light-filled and streamlined.

I know where everything is... super organized... not cramped and cluttered.

It's an edited closet and it's got all the great classics and basics we make at ANINE BING: killer leather, killer denim, crisp blazers, piles of fresh white tees, studded ankle boots... all the essentials."

HOW OFTEN DO YOU PURGE ITEMS FROM YOUR CLOSET? "Really often. I keep a SUPER edited closet of what I'm loving and wearing currently along with the few items I'd never get rid of. Otherwise I'm rotating out constantly. I'm not precious about holding onto things."

"I have it currently!"

"Bright, light, open...somewhere you can see everything and have a window to the outside world so it feels like a homey little room. An area for jewelry and a candle and some memories. It's the perfect place to get dressed. Inspiring, not cramped, and organized and efficient. I love it."

Last week, amid the holiday buzz, I celebrated my birthday in true LA fashion, with an outdoor December dinner party! Although we are in the dead of winter, the tablescape has me itching for spring, with florals from The Empty Vase, as well as marble and blush place settings (via Casa de Perrin).

I hope this holiday season was filled with fun, laughter, and times spent with those you love!

'Tis the Travel Season

She’s making her (travel) list, and checking it twice!

So, you’ve got your holiday gift checklists, but what about your packing checklist? As I gear up for some holiday travel, I’ve started to gather some of my can’t-live-without travel essentials that I wouldn’t dream of leaving home without. Here are a few of my holiday travel must-haves:

Alexander Wang Amelia Studded Shearling Slippers -- Slippers aren’t for everyone, but this shearling pair with embellished silver studs look comfy enough to wear inside with a robe and stylish enough to wear outside with a flowy dress.

0400095462470-black-e73811dd-.jpg
alexander-wang-slippers.jpg
1146c93267b9512e3b0ffc09b0a65cbc.jpg

Chinti and Parker Striped Cashmere Onesie -- It wouldn’t be the holidays without a playful onesie, right? There are endless onesie options out there, but if you’re looking for a luxe version, this is it.  Made from super soft cashmere that is cozy, but not too thick, I’ll be spending a lot of time lounging in this guy (especially in cold Colorado where I’ll be for New Year’s Eve!).

957578_ou_pp.jpg
957578_bk_pp.jpg

Conair ExtremeSteam GS38 Handheld Fabric Steamer -- There’s nothing worse than unpacking for your holiday vacation and finding wrinkles in your clothes. So, I always travel with a handheld steamer to ensure my items look their best. This one from Conair is consistently top rated for its efficiency and effectiveness.

KNIT PICKING

Cable-knit / Cashmere / Crewnecks / Cardigans

It may be warm in LA, but I definitely have fall fashion on the brain. Sweaters are one of my favorite seasonal pleasures. Chunky cable-knits, cashmere, crewnecks, cardigans...I love them all!

Here are a few catching my eye right now:

Chloe Chunky Knit Cardigan

I’ve been wearing a lot neutrals lately, so it’s no surprise I have heart eyes for this chic camel-colored cardigan.  Less formal and structured than a coat, this  statement-making sweater’s playful pompoms along the sleeves add a bit of personality.

Ulla Johnson Cornelia Pullover

Chunky cream knits are always so nostalgic to me, as if I should be sipping hot coco in an Alpine ski lodge. This one, made from super soft Alpaca yarn, has a darling popcorn cableknit motif and looks as cozy as it does cool.

PRO-TIP: Invest in the right hangers for your cold-weather wardrobe! Larger outerwear pieces and delicate knits require proper care, even when hanging in your closet.

Sweater hangers will protect against stretching, slipping, and snags, while coat hangers provide adequate shoulder support for your heavier garments, helping to maintain their shape.

Pixie Market Laurel Sweater

Mustard is hot this season and this sweater is a fun way to spice up your fall look. In addition to the color, I’m loving the dramatic balloon sleeves and open back, which make it a great date night option. Plus, it has a price tag that won’t give you chills.

NYFW - PRE-FALL PURGE

Prepare for fall fashion with a closet purge!

In preparation for NYFW and the forthcoming fall fashion season I recently spent a weekend doing one of my favorite activities -- purging my closet to make room for all the new trends.  As I went through my clothes I thought about the questions I ask my clients when I help them clean out their closets: Have you worn it in the past year? Does it fit? Is it a trend piece that won’t be back in style anytime soon? And, ultimately I ended up with a big donation pile and some fresh closet space for fall finds.

If you’re feeling the desire to ditch some duds, a good place to start is getting rid of trendy items that are “out” and styles that aren’t current. If you’re wondering what trends are barely hanging by a thread, a few that come to mind are: skin tight denim or “jeggings,” fringe handbags, peacoats, holed tee shirts and peep-toe pumps. Though prints and patterns always have a place in fashion, I’ve found myself moving away from certain versions and towards cleaner modern looks, so purged several pattern pieces for that reason. Check out the photos for proof of my purge! For a full rundown of my purging tips, check out my closet purge with Maria Menounos!

ECO-FRIENDLY OPTIONS

Don’t forget, there are plenty of ways to keep your clothes out of landfills -- whether it’s donating to Dress for Success or Goodwill or selling on apps like TheRealReal and Tradesy.  Happy purging!

THINK PINK

A color that defines a generation provides endless design inspiration!

Chances are you’ve seen a proliferation of pink -- more specifically millennial pink -- on your Instagram feed, in stores and virtually at every turn.  Millennial pink has officially permeated our lives -- from popular restaurants like Sketch in London to product packaging like that of Glossier and fashion brands like Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma Spring/Summer ‘17 collection.  Even The Beverly Hills Hotel’s newest installation, Marc Ange’s Le Refuge, sports the shade.

Who would have guessed that a color could resonate so strongly with an entire generation? Though there’s some varying opinions about its exact shade, I think blush-toned pink is the most widely accepted version. And, in my opinion, the most aesthetically pleasing. Love it but not sure how to integrate the hot hue into your home and closet? Here are a few options:

Accents

Perhaps the simplest and most affordable way to bring millennial pink into your space is with a subtle accent piece. Try a candle, vase, planter, tray, throw or pillow to achieve that perfect pop of pink!

Fashion & Accessory Displays

Want to give your closet a color boost with millennial pink? Put your favorite fashion finds in the shade on display! There are so many ways to sport the hue this season, you can be sure to find a piece you will love for years to come.

Flooring

If you’re prepared to make a bold statement try a millennial pink sheepskin rug. Want to make an even bigger impact? Install carpet...just make sure you love the color!

Furnishings

Furniture pieces are a great way to introduce the stylish shade into your home. Depending on your dwelling’s overall aesthetic, you can choose a chic couch, sleek stools or a beautiful bench.

Inserts and Dividers

If you want to test millennial pink before committing, I suggest adding a hint of the trendy hue with drawer inserts or dividers that can separate items like undergarments, socks and tee shirts. If you smile every time you open your drawer, you’ll know you’re ready to take the pink plunge!

Wall Coverings

For the risk-averse, opt to paint a room, or just a single wall, to bring millennial pink into a space. Elle Decor spotlighted some of the best paint options out there. Feel like making a bigger commitment to the color? I recommend a playful printed wallpaper like these from Spoonflower.

POWER WALK 2017

Dress for Success Fuses Fashion with Female Empowerment

Dress-for-Success-Logo-JPG-2015-1024x683.jpg

About 10 years ago I became involved with Dress for Success (DFS), an organization that merges fashion with philanthropy, and it has consistently brought me inspiration and fulfillment over the years. If you’re not familiar, DFS empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

In 2009 I created a functional and aesthetically appealing closet in the DFS West headquarters in Los Angeles to give their clients a safe and comfortable space to find and try on workwear. For several years, I have served as designer for the organization's LA Pop-Up shop! Being able to give back, by doing what I love seemed like such a perfect fit, and allowed me to really increase involvement in the organization. Today, I continue to be heavily involved in the organization as an Advisory Council member.

I’m currently gearing up for the DFS's annual Power Walk on August 26, and I invite you to lace up your Nikes and join my team or make a donation to support the very deserving cause. Fitness is already so inherent to my own lifestyle, making this event one of my favorite ways to show support for DFS. The international 5K event serves as a walking testament to the need for success-driven women to become healthy in all aspects of their lives. Each of the walk’s three miles represents one of the three phases that DFS clients experience on their journey to self-sufficiency—from being unemployed and searching, to recently employed and adjusting, to gainfully employed and succeeding. This year’s theme is Unleashing the Power Within and I’m excited to join women warriors to unleash the power to make positive, rewarding healthy changes in life.

If you’re interested in getting involved in an organization that aligns with your interests, DFS is a great, meaningful charity that fuses fashion with female empowerment. Visit the DFS website for more information about the Power Walk and organization.

SMELLS LIKE SUMMER

BRING HOME SUMMER'S BEST SCENTS WITH THESE FRAGRANT CANDLES

What fragrances remind you of summer? When I think of summer scents I channel aromas of suntan lotion, salt water, fresh cut grass, jasmine, and citrus. In honor of the sunny season I’ve rounded up my favorite warm-weather candles. A mix of old classics and new favorites, these transport me to sunshine no matter the month.

Diptyque Tomas Maier Palm Beach Scented Candle

Not only do I love the black and white packaging on this candle, I adore its scent. Round fragrances of jasmine, iris, lemon and lime trees, sea salt and fresh-cut grass transport me right to Florida’s fragrant paradise.

Mer-Sea Summer Day Boxed Candle & Agate Coaster

This candle perfectly captures the essence of summer, featuring a fresh, grassy scent mixed with florals, citrus, cinnamon, ginger, clove, cedar and spruce. And, the agate coaster that’s included could not be chicer!

Nest Ocean Mist & Sea Salt Classic Candle

As if the ocean is just a few feet away, this luxe candle is a clever concoction of ocean mist fragrance, sea salt, white tea and coconut. Heaven!

Sel de Mer Classic Toile Pagoda Box Candle

This candle may look simple, but it’s precisely blended to smell like the ocean. It combines light green marine and sea moss with the fresh perfumes of cyclamen and lavender, and is finished with touches of earthy wild sage and citrus-y petitgrain.

Sunday Forever Tanlines

Want to be transported to a tropical locale without the sunburn? Burning this candle is like taking a trip to the beach, blending notes of suntan lotion and coconuts, and ending up with the best sun-free tan ever.

STYLIZE YOUR SPACE

You are what you wear!

Wow! It’s been great to see all the responses to our closet personality quiz. If you haven’t taken the quiz yet, you may want to before jumping into this post - it's all about ways to inject your style personality into your closet!

Often our interior aesthetic is deeply connected to our personal style. What does it mean if your wardrobe is full of rich textiles like velvet and fur? Or, if you’re always drawn to precious materials like pearl or marble? I’ve highlighted a few of my current favorite style trends, and am breaking down what it means if they’re part of your personal style and how to integrate them into your closet.

Florals

If your style seed is deeply rooted in floral aesthetics, chances are you have a girly and feminine sensibility. However, if you’re drawn to black and dark backgrounds with flower print foregrounds, you’re not afraid of a hint of unexpected drama.

Florals can find their way into your space through wallpapers, fabrics, or the old fashioned way - a delicate arrangement!

Fur

Fabulous, fierce and totally unapologetic, you embrace the finer things in life, especially when it comes to your style.  Whether you opt for new or vintage, real or faux, you definitely have a wild side.

Fur accents can add a touch of glamour to an otherwise tame interior, whether through pillows, an ottoman, or a fluffy rug.

Lace

If you’re a lace-lover, you likely embrace the romantic and delicate details. Lucky for you, it’s always in style and there are a million ways to incorporate it into your wardrobe (and home).

Try introducing a traditional window treatment, or if that's not quite your speed, the pattern can be incorporated and abstracted on a larger scale for a wall surface!

Leather

Leather can be naughty or nice! If you have lots of leather pieces in your wardrobe, you more than likely appreciate a modern, sleeker aesthetic with a bit of edginess.

Leather can add a tactile touch to even the smallest details in a space. You can turn up the luxe with a leather drawer pull, a wall panel, or an accent furniture piece.

Marble

The pinnacle of sophisticated textiles, if marble makes you merry, you’re attracted to chic, old-world European style. While marble is often associated with home decor, you’ve likely landed some pieces that feature a marble print, whether on workout pants or a handbag.

Although most commonly seen on the closet floor, I prefer to get the pattern up on the wall, so it can be truly appreciated! Accent pieces and floating shelves are also great ways to get a little carrara in the closet!

Metal Studs

Whether you’re an actual renegade or simply someone who enjoys a touch of edge in your wardrobe, metal studs are your way of adding dimension -- and rebellion -- to your style.

This trendy tactile element can also make its way into closet decor, through upholstered wall surfaces and nailhead ottomans!

Pearls

Thanks to designers like Nicholas Kirkwood for modernizing and reinventing the way in which you can integrate pearls into your personal style. If you’re wearing pearls -- whether a timeless strand necklace or on a chic new shoe -- chances are you put your own spin on it, merging classic with cool.

Pearls, though precious, can find their place in the most functional of closets! Delicate drawer knobs or an ultra-luxe light fixture are both great places to incorporate a pearly accent.

Quilting

What’s more iconic than a quilted Chanel 2.55 Classic Flap bag? Not much, which is why quilted and tufted accessories resonate with fashionistas who value enduring style.

If the added softness of a quilted surface appeals to your senses, there are endless ways to achieve this in your space! Quilting can quickly elevate any upholstered accent piece, wall panel, or closet backing.

Velvet

This rich and luxurious fall/winter fabric is a designer dream and was pervasive on NYFW F/W ‘17 runways. If you’re someone who's constantly crushing on velvet pieces -- whether a kimono, dress, or shoes -- you aren’t afraid to indulge in opulence.

Velvet in a space means guaranteed glam! While it's perfect for a tufted ottoman or a simple stool, this fabric brings a luxurious sheen to an upholstered door, wall, or window treatment as well!
