CUSTOM CLOSET HARDWARE

While decorative handles and pulls are always fun for dressing up a closet, today I want to take a look at some of the clever custom alternatives that make a space feel far more custom and intentional! The pulls and mechanisms we use to interact with our closets are the most tactile opportunity to make an impression, and elevate the experience of the design. Ranging from soft leathers to luxurious metals and everything in between, these are some of the custom hardware tricks we like to see in the closet!

CUSTOM TAB PULLS

Perhaps the most familiar, and closest related to a decorative cabinet pull, a custom tab pull takes things one step more elevated! If you’re looking for a minimal aesthetic, but want metallic accents to carry around the room, a custom tab pull specified to the widths and heights of your closet will make the space feel far more elevated. If you’re looking for an added layer of functionality, consider engraving your pulls for easy identification of the items in your wardrobe!

FINGER PULLS

Finger pulls are another very custom, clean solution for interacting with your closet! Typically, this means routing out an opening in the drawer or door faces, or notching out a gap to easily pull the drawer open from the top or bottom. This is great for achieving a minimal, custom look, especially if a decorative accent or metal finish would interrupt the otherwise monochromatic design.

LEATHER PULLS

Leather pulls are another luxurious, less common alternative for cabinet hardware! Given the nature of the material, it’s actually quite easy and economical to achieve a very custom look using leather pulls. Visually and tactilely, they help to soften the design, and will age over time to give a more organic and lived-in look!

TOUCH-LATCH

Perhaps the most minimal option for closet hardware is the touch-latch mechanism! This allows you to create a completely seamless look, free of gaps or hardware of any kind. The mechanism sits behind the face, so you simply press the drawer or door and it pops open for easy access. This is a great solution if you don’t want decorative hardware to distract from the design of the millwork, or if you want your wardrobe to really disappear!

RECESSED PULLS

Maybe the most custom, an inset pull requires routing out the face of your cabinetry for a flush installation. This is a really beautiful way to create a custom look, and add a little decorative flair. You could opt to do something entirely custom to complement your design, or there are many off-the-shelf recessed pulls that with proper installation will feel infinitely more custom than a handle or knob!
