EXPERT ORGANIZATION TIPS - PEOPLE MAGAZINE

This week I was thrilled to be included in People Magazine’s story alongside a celebrated cast of expert organizers and designers such as Nate Berkus, Marie Kondo and more, sharing DIY tips to take your home (and closet) to the next level. This curated collection of tips has me looking for takeaways in some of my favorite celebrity clients’ closets! Today, I want to share a few of my favorite design decisions, and how we can all recreate the top notch organizational elements at home.

Brad Goreski

Because Brad’s closet is a shared space with his bathroom, I needed to ensure the space felt fluid and optimally organized. As a professional stylist, Brad has some incredible pieces, but his tie assortment is especially impressive! To best showcase and store his ties, I installed sturdy wall-mounted rods that allow him to see his selection and easily find the one he wants for the occasion.

DIY Tip: Towel rods are actual lifesavers! They’re relatively affordable and very versatile, allowing you to hang ties (similar to how Brad’s are stored), scarves or adjustable hats. Find them anywhere from CB2 to Anthropologie to Home Depot.

Giuliana Rancic

As a red carpet regular and successful mogul, Giuliana has an amazing wardrobe! To best streamline and organize her inventory,  I added pull-out hooks to the wall space so she can plan her outfit(s) for the day. Additionally, to help preserve her designer handbags and keep them in pristine condition, I stuffed them with purse pillows and separated them using glass shelf dividers.

DIY Tip: Treating your handbags well will ensure they have longevity and continue to remain in good condition. A small investment in purse pillows and shelf dividers will have a big impact over time!

Khloé Kardashian

It’s no secret the Keeping Up with The Kardashians star is extremely organized. So, when it came to designing her workout closet, it was essential she was able to see and easily find her fashionable, fitness gear. To achieve this, I hung her exercise pants and leggings on hangers, rather than folding them. I also incorporated custom glass display boxes on top of her dresser to showcase hair accessories, lifting gloves and sweatbands so she can grab and go, go, go!

DIY Tip: Glass display boxes are easy to come by, so determine what items you want to showcase, like jewelry or headbands, and select a size that works for you. Find some pretty options on Happily Gray, West Elm and H&M.

Olivia Culpo

A beauty queen turned fashionista, Olivia has an enviable wardrobe...and, an especially robust sunglasses collection! To best organize her chic shades, I custom-created suede-lined inserts that would fit all her fashionable frames. This hack helps keep them organized, protected and dust-free!

DIY Tip: You, too, can store your sunnies like a celeb. The LA Closet Design shop offers a variety of suede-lined drawer inserts!

Von Miller

This Super Bowl-winning Denver Broncos defensive star has a closet as big as his personality! So, to optimize the 2,000 square-foot’s wall space, I introduced glass shadow boxes with sleeves. These were key for displaying his expansive glasses and sunglasses supply.

DIY Tip:  Hanging shadow boxes are a bigger investment than shelf display boxes, but if you have space on your walls, this is a game-changing way to store and display accessories. Find some commercial versions, both with and without shelving, here
