CANE CLOSET INSPO

Gone are the days of your grandparents’ cane patio furniture! Cane is coming back in a major way, and making a huge impact in both interior design and fashion! From the Cult Gaia bag that took social media by storm, to kitchen cabinetry and furniture pieces, we’re seeing this cool material used in all kinds of new ways. It’s the perfect summer statement to create a tropical laid-back aesthetic. Now, more than ever, since summer travel is limited we are seeing growing trends that bring the resort lifestyle into the home.

Being a natural material and a neutral color, cane can work seamlessly with almost any style! Recently, we started designing a dream dressing room for Julie Sarinana of Sincerely Jules, and wanted to draw from her laid-back Cali cool aesthetic. Her home is open and airy and incorporates lots of natural earthy tones. What better way to keep the SoCal summer going all year round than a dressing room oasis with custom cane cabinetry, Spanish-style tile work, and live accent plants!? Cane is the perfect accent to bring a soft summer style to any area of the home — I especially like the ways designers are dressing it up with more polished metal details! A cane cabinet with brass hardware or a glossy black finish is an ideal level of contrast that will exude simplicity while still feeling refined in your space. For this reason, we opted for brass accents throughout the dressing room design we created for Jules. The pairing is the perfect way to elevate the natural look of cane while making it feel young and new!

How you choose to incorporate cane into your lifestyle might really depend on where you live! It’s a very summer-y choice, which means incorporating it as a staple in the home isn’t for everyone. Here in LA, summer is a state of mind, not just a season! We love the idea of having linen and cane furnishings year-round. If you’re looking for ways to take part that are a little less permanent, there are many beautiful shoes and accessories you can work into your seasonal wardrobe. Designer brands like Gucci have even incorporated bamboo and cane into several of their recent collections — it’s a trend that is fashion-forward yet timeless.
