SUMMER STYLE: GREEN CHECKS, CHECKERS, AND PLAIDS

In case you missed it, supermodel Gigi Hadid set the internet ablaze earlier this summer starting one of the seasons hottest trends! Gigi hosted an IG Live in which she debuted her baby bump in a pair of green and white checker PJ’s, and viewers went wild for the playful print! Leave it to the internet to track down the exact PJ set from Holiday the Label! I decided to take the hint and pull a little design inspo, exploring a few ways you could incorporate this colorful scheme into your own closet, wardrobe, or home.

For those who like to work color and pattern into their wardrobe, there are so many fun takes on this trend that are perfect for a summer fit! The checker print is decidedly bold, but the olive green / white color combo tones it down just enough to keep you from tiring of the trend too quickly. Checker patterns are a classic staple in interior design — generally seen in black and white, the green version feels fresh and is the perfect way to liven up your kitchen or living spaces!

If you tend to shy away from bright colors in your home or clothing choices, you can still have a little fun with some version of this lively print. Maybe you swap the contrasting checker pattern for something a little more subdued — a plaid, or a gingham? Maybe you love the classic checker look but opt to incorporate a darker color palette that complements your space! There are so many ways to play up the summer print.

If you are apprehensive about committing to the colorful scheme for the long-term, consider some smaller home accessories, or an upholstered piece of furniture! These are easy ways to transform a room with very little investment, and you can swap out these items seasonally as your tastes change. Throw pillows, rugs, dishes, and even curtains are some simple ways to introduce the pattern without a major commitment!

If you’re set for an endless summer, and want to make a bolder leap, consider a patterned floor, tile work, or wallpaper to make a serious statement in any room! The beauty of this pattern and color is that it truly can transition for every season depending how you style the space — pair with fresh flowers in the summer in spring for a bright and airy aesthetic. Swap out your accessories for natural earth tones and deep green decor for the fall and holiday season!
