STYLING A SHOWROOM CLOSET

This week, I thought I would bring you all up to speed on some inspo I’ve been gathering for a very fun new project! The client (while I can’t yet reveal who) has her own line of apparel, and is looking to create a versatile live / work / play space to display her merchandise, operate her business, create content, and get glam for public events. The client specifically loves model/influencer Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s aesthetic, and the shots of her home that she shares across her social channels. This is a look she wants to embody in the new space! Cozy, clean, chic…

This is such an exciting opportunity as a designer to marry the residential spaces we create with all the inspo we look to from the world of retail! The closet needs to perform a few specific functions — I want to break these down, and pull together the elements and materials here that will help to bring this space to life.

Merchandise Display

Probably the highlight of the space, this area will let the client display the most current pieces of the collection, and sets the tone for the larger business at hand! This area should look polished and put-together at all times. With clean lines and a clever use of lighting, this area could serve as the perfect backdrop for her to create quick videos or record interviews about the collection!

Content Creation

Another major part of any modern workspace, the client requested an area to shoot content for her social channels! This should be a dedicated space similar to the staging areas we create in a closet, where she can stage and style looks, and shoot them against a variety of simple backdrops.

Professional Wardrobe

Functionally, the showroom closet needs to have a “closet within a closet” for storage of professional pieces she wears on camera. This will consist of blazers, leather pants, and other fashion-forward accessories! Ideally, we will want to create some type of separation for this, so that it feels more personal and less a part of the larger display space.

Glam Station

Every girl boss needs a glam station. Here, we’ll create storage for all the tools and products the pros need for hair & makeup! This will include separate spaces for hair, face makeup, nails, lip kits, and eye makeup. I always like to incorporate storage for brushes and electrical items (hair dryer, flat iron, etc) at a vanity, as well as ensuring adequate mirrors and front-facing lighting!

Entertaining Space

Alongside all of this programming, the space should also allow for casual meetings, lounging, and entertaining. As such, I want to include a beverage station, a comfortable seating area, and a nice rug that will help delineate this area. The client loves a minimal yet warm aesthetic, and directed me to a few of her favorite brands / influencers to pull for inspiration!

Stay tuned for more. Can’t wait to bring this project to life and continue to share more of the process moving forward! AND if you have any ideas to share, or find fun inspo you’d like to see incorporated, feel free to share with us @laclosetdesign on IG!
