GUEST CLOSET ESSENTIALS

When considering the needs of guests in your home, it’s so important to design a closet that makes for a comfortable stay! Often these are smaller spaces, and a thoughtful design is critical to making a functional space. Today, I’m sharing a few often overlooked elements that make up a great closet for guests!

A STAGING SETUP

One of the biggest things you can do for your guests to make them feel welcome in your home, is provide a place for them to stage their outfits. Nothing beats the feeling of unpacking your suitcase in a nice hotel, and this is an experience I try to recreate in guest closets. Giving a pull-out rod or staging hook for clients to assemble their outfits or steam items that are wrinkled from travel will make them immediately feel at home.

DRAWERS

Drawers are often forgotten in guest closets, but they make a huge difference in recreating the comforts of home! This way, your guests have a place to stash valuables and travel items, fold sweaters or intimates, and keep anything from winding up on the floor.

A PLACE TO PACK

Almost any guest coming to stay in your home is going to be coming with luggage, and it’s always good to have a place for this to land. I like to include luggage racks for packing / unpacking, as well as a knee-height shelf for leaving the suitcase open upon arrival. Pull-out folding tables are also a great solution for creating a surface in a small closet!

CHARGING

Anything you can do to add creature comforts will make your guest closet feel luxurious and considered! I think charging stations in the closet are one of the easiest and most practical things you can add — this way your guests can comfortably keep all their devices charged and stowed away. This also makes it easier to iron or steam in the closet when pieces come out of the luggage!

LOTS OF LIGHTING

Finally, I think lighting makes a huge impact in any closet, but especially in smaller spaces! It adds a level of detail that makes the space feel considered, and makes it so much easier to make sure you don’t leave anything behind when you pack your bags.
