SEATING SOLUTIONS FOR THE CLOSET

Often overlooked, creating a comfortable place to sit is a must in any dressing room! For this space to really function as a retreat, you need a spot to unwind, sit to put on shoes, take phone calls, or even entertain! Today, I want to talk about a few of my favorite seating options for the closet, and how they can transform your closet into a livable extension of the home.

CHAISE

A chaise is probably the most idyllic option for the closet — it adds a touch of feminine glamour to a closet, and provides a comfortable place to lounge and unwind! You might opt for an antique piece reminiscent of old Hollywood movie dressing rooms, or a more modern take to complement your tastes. Obviously, a chaise will take up a good bit of real estate, but if you have the space, it will undoubtedly make your dressing room your favorite place to get away.

OTTOMAN

This is usually the most common selection for the closet, as you can find ottomans in all shapes and sizes, and they don’t have to take up a ton of space! The ottoman can also be easily moved around, making it ideal for tighter spaces. Additionally, you can find lots of options with hidden storage inside, making it an even more functional solution!

SOFA

If you have the luxury of space, a sofa in the dressing room is a serious flex that takes your dressing room up a notch! Not only can it be a functional addition, creating the possibility of a flexible guest room, but it makes the space a true entertaining space! I always want the closet to function as an extension of the home, and having a proper seating area with space to entertain friends will make the closet a fun, intimate hangout space.

LOUNGE CHAIR

I would consider the lounge chair the happy medium for a dressing room seating solution! You can find one with a small footprint that would eat up too much space, yet still provides support and is a comfortable place to relax while getting ready. Pair with a cute side table or floor lamp, and you have your new favorite spot to hide away in your own personal sanctuary.

BUILT-IN BENCH

If you’re designing from scratch, a custom built-in bench is also a great option, especially in smaller closets! These could take many forms, perhaps below a window, integrated into the perimeter cabinetry, or even attached to the island! You can also incorporate drawers, hampers or hidden storage below making this a super flexible and functional option to make the most of your space.
