5 UNDERRATED CUSTOM CLOSET FEATURES

When we’re designing custom dressing rooms for our clients, we often have the luxury of space, and can pack the closet with all the bells and whistles! When it comes to custom conveniences, though, there are actually a lot of features you can incorporate that will take up ZERO space at all! Today, I’m sharing a few of our favorite closet features that will drastically improve the design and functionality of your space, without sacrificing a single square inch of space.

3-WAY MIRROR

A clever trick we like to implement to achieve a 3-way mirror in a smaller space is to use mirrored doors! Hinged in the right configuration, you can create a fully functioning 3-way mirror for dressing and tailoring, without taking up any additional space in your closet.

VALET RODS

I often refer to these as the secret weapon of a successful closet design! We always incorporate pull-out staging rods wherever possible. These are endlessly useful, perfect for packing, staging new looks, bringing dry cleaning back into the closet… the list goes on! The best part, they take up no space at all. You can install these directly into the millwork of your closet.

PULL-OUT PACKING TABLES

A pull-out packing table is another great space-saving tool for adding functionality to a closet. If you don’t want to sacrifice space for an island or bureau, this is a great way to get a flat surface for folding and packing! Then when you’re done, simply stow it away — it disappears into the millwork and takes up no space at all.

AUTOMATED LIGHTING

Another great functional perk to designing custom is properly lighting your space so you can find what you need! We utilize motion-activated sensors and automated switches so you’re never left fumbling around in the dark. Open a door, and the lights come on automatically, making getting ready easier, and conserving energy!

INTEGRATED CHARGING

Finally, designing a custom closet from scratch means the ability to configure the electrical conveniently for your lifestyle. This means if you prefer outlets in specific spots for steaming, vacuuming, charging, etc, you have the option to lay this out however you choose! This is an underrated perk that makes your closet far more functional on a daily basis. Often, this also allows us to integrate electrified mechanisms in the closet, like docking stations, pull-down hanging rods, TVs, fridges, and more.
