FAVORITE HARDWARE FINISHES

Choosing materials and finishes in your dream closet can be an overwhelming task! There are so many options and they’re truly endless when you’re designing something custom. You want to consider how the space will complement your own personal style / clothing, while also being mindful of the timelessness of the design. For many clients, they want to toe the line between fashion-forward and trendy, in a way that will stand the test of time and likely also allow for improved resale value down the line if they were to ever sell their home. Today, I want to break down a few of my favorite hardware finishes we’re seeing in client’s homes, and why they each might be the perfect fit for your dream dressing room!

SATIN BRASS

Brass has long been considered perhaps the most classic or traditional finish for hardware in a home — and while it does come and go, I believe a solid brass hardware will never truly go out of style! Personally, I prefer something a little toned down, more of a champagne color, and in a satin or brushed finish, as this will lend itself to a slightly more modern design aesthetic, and will be more adaptable as trends change! It can feel both masculine or feminine, and pairs well with painted or natural hardwood millwork.

POLISHED NICKEL

Another super adaptable option, which I think will never go out of style, is a simple polished nickel finish — it’s a warm silver-tone finish that can feel very luxurious and bespoke in a traditional home, or sleek and modern in a more minimal design! I love the look of a polished nickel hardware in an otherwise warm, wood-toned space. The polish makes this finish very durable and practical, while feeling glamorous, upscale, and universally appealing.

BLACK

Recently, I’ve seen many clients gravitate toward a black hardware finish — this is no surprise as we gravitate toward more modern homes and closets. Often, I think kitchens drive many of the finish choices in a home, and as we know, black fixtures and appliances have definitely made a comeback in recent years! This is a great option to bring contrast to your closet, or to add a little edge to an otherwise minimal white space!

ROSE GOLD

Perhaps a surprising add, I believe rose gold hardware is sticking around with us for a while! Particularly in closets, where clients seem to take a little more risk and play up the glamorous, feminine personality of the space, we are still seeing a pull toward rose gold accessories. Even in fashion, rose gold jewelry has become a staple finish, and the Hermes rose gold hardware bags remain coveted collectors’ items!

ACRYLIC

Finally, possibly the most fun “hardware” I’m seeing in closets these days isn’t actually hardware at all! Clients are increasingly looking to make playful use of acrylic in their homes — as 80s fashions and furnishings make a return, we see lots of lucite furniture coming back in style. I think acrylic hanging rods, pulls, and accessories are a great way to add personality to your closet, and will work with almost any materials or existing color schemes!
