ART DECO DREAM CLOSET

Today I want to share a behind the scenes look at a dreamy dressing room for a very special client! The design directive was to create an art-deco inspired sanctuary, with plenty of space for a fashion collector’s pieces and all the custom, on-of-a-kind details! This closet is full of personality, and I’m excited to give a glimpse at the process of creating some very luxe custom touches to bring the space to life.

BEFORE

The dressing room is actually made up of a few former spaces! Before, there were two individual spare bedrooms, separated by smaller walk-in closets. The client wanted to open up all the spaces for an ultimate dressing space, so that’s exactly what we did! The goal, to create various areas throughout for storage, working, display, and socializing. The design went through a few iterations before we settled on a footprint, and a custom powdery blue-grey paint finish, with nickel and brass accents throughout!

DESIGN

Final renderings for the closet feature an eclectic design sensibility, with dramatic details and a hint of old Hollywood glamour!

CUSTOM DETAILS

HAND-PAINTED WALL COVERING

The client was so inspired by the dramatic movement of this hand-painted wall treatment, that we commissioned a custom painted wallpaper from Vahallan to apply to the ceilings in both spaces!

MILLWORK PROFILES

Complimenting the historic character of the house, the millwork needed special attention to detail. Inset profiles with rosette details were the inspirations for all the closet doors and millwork.

CUSTOM DESK / VANITY

In order to maximize functionality for a workspace and vanity in the closet, we designed a custom piece that incorporates an automatic lighted mirror on a lift, so it can disappear completely when not in use!

INSTALLATION

As the space comes to life, accessories like custom drawer inserts and decorative hardware provide more opportunity to elevate the space, and to incorporate the client’s playful personality, creating a completely one-of-a-kind space!

I hope you enjoy this inside look at the process, and I can’t wait to share more of the final space!
