CLOSETS OF CHAMPIONS

This weekend marks one of the most highly anticipated events of the sports world — the Super Bowl!

With so many things having been canceled or postponed over the last year, it’s exciting to see that the NFL has carried on and will be televising the much awaited game (and halftime show) for us all to enjoy as we have for years! The Kansas City Chiefs will be taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their home state of Florida, and it’s sure to be a great game! In anticipation, I’m thinking about all of our sports-affiliated (and sports-loving) clients, and the spaces we’ve created for them. From pro athletes to announcers and fans alike, there are a few staple elements in any athletic design! Here, I want to take a look at what makes a sports closet so special, and also round up a little behind-the-scenes look at some of the locker rooms and lounges the pros call home when it’s game-time!

No matter the league you’re in, or the sport you play, a solid sneaker collection is a must! Every athlete loves a pair of colorful kicks, and these make for great focal pieces and conversation starters, whether a closet, locker room, or memorabilia display. Backlit shelves and a color coordinated arrangement can go along way in creating a “wow” moment for any sneakerhead. Von Miller, our client with the Denver Broncos, was no exception when it came to his shoe collection. See the full tour of his super-closet on CLOSETPHILE here!

More recently, we are working on designs of a top notch trophy room for MLB star Mike Trout, where memorabilia display is a top priority! As a pro athlete, you can imagine the impressive collection of signed sports gear and collectibles. These needed to be both properly showcased, and kept protected. Glass displays and lots of lighting allow for a museum-like experience, where all his many accolades are given a place to shine.

If you’re not looking to display your sports gear, but rather for a more functional solution, look no further than this locker-room inspired closet we designed for a teenage athlete! Complete with custom metal fronts, a full height sneaker wall, and pull-out storage for bats, this closet is preparing the young athlete for life in the big leagues.

Believe it or not, the common thread that ties all these spaces together — the staging area! Whether it’s an NFL team locker room where players are changing between plays, or a jersey display in a private trophy room, there’s always a need for a nice place to stage. The jaw-dropping dressing rooms of the professional teams feature a separate staging area for each player, complete with space for hanging, a helmet above, and a shoe locker below! Some teams even pamper the players with personalized plaques and first-class lounge level seating!

Finally, no locker room would be complete without a little team spirit! Whether it’s a framed jersey, embroidered gym bags, or a wall-to-wall carpet bearing the team’s mascot, the right pairing of colors can instantly set the tone for a spirited space! If you’re a true sports lover at heart, I hope these themed dressing spaces have you inspired to showcase your own team spirit somewhere in your home, even if it’s for your eyes only!
