FASHION MONTH

Fashion month, with designer shows and presentations in New York, London, Milan and Paris, wrapped up last week. Despite Coronavirus making an unwanted appearance, face masks weren’t the trend du jour! While some designers didn’t shy away from doom and gloom themes, the general fall 2020 landscape was chock full of vibrant autumnal hues, sexy cutouts and feminine silhouettes.

So, what are some of the most universal trends we can expect next season? I’m breaking down a few of the best fall fads and how to bring them into your closet and home!

Leather and Latex -- Leather has officially cemented itself as a year-round style staple. But, for fall, designers challenged traditional leather looks with bold shades and liquid-y latex iterations. Balmain and Saint Laurent’s runways were hot with high-gloss glam garments while designers like Fendi and Nanushka opted for ladylike leather sets.

Bringing leather elements into the home can be a fun change, but it can also be a vehicle for practical storage solutions. LA Closet Design’s leather box is ideal for storing off-season duds and keepsakes. Meanwhile, variations of leather, like vinyl and latex, can introduce a touch of edge to your space. This pair of pink lacquered nightstands blends dramatic shine with glossy girliness.  For a more subtle but still on-trend option, add a tray like this faux stingray one to your vanity.

Victorian Influences -- The Victorian era was the period of Queen Victoria's reign, from 1837 to 1901. Influences from this time period were popular on fall catwalks, from ruffle sleeves and ribbon necks to muted floral prints and structured shoulders. Designers including Zimmermann, Brock Collection and Khaite all took a nod from this era and the recent Little Women remake, embracing simpler times through their collections.

Textiles like ornate wall coverings were a prominent part of the Victorian era decor,  so integrating this trend into the home can be as simple as emulating interiors from that time period. Try a rug like this one with a floral motif or this affordable throw pillow. If an elaborate textile feels overwhelming an ornate mirror is a tasteful way to introduce Victorian elements into your space.

Glitz  -- As maximalism continues to be on the incline among interiors, fall collections echoed with a dazzling display of wearable glamour. From a sequin jumpsuit by Balenciaga to a sparkly jacket at Off-White to a multitude of metallic embellished frocks at shows like Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs, glitzy looks shined bright.

A luxe closet isn’t complete without a striking chandelier and this fall trend invites decadent lighting like this Swarovski chandelier. Or make a statement with a ritzy wallpaper that feels both playful and sophisticated. For a more affordable glitz upgrade, change out your hardware. Add crystal knobs to your dresser or cabinet for a touch of sparkle!

Red -- The regal color representing power and determination reigned supreme during fashion month. From glam gowns by Oscar de la Renta and Brandon Maxwell to plaid punk looks at Monse and Stella McCartney to power suits at Altuzarra, red was a runway staple.

Whether you opt for moody grunge,  formal femininity or a traditional power play, red is a versatile interior hue. Add a bold red chair to your dressing room -- this one is velvet, another top trend for fall. This woven basket feels timeless and is perfect for storing hats, scarves or throw blankets. For a small, but still of-the-moment pop, try a modern design-driven hook to hang coats or to stage a look for an important upcoming event.
