STYLIST'S STUDIO Q&A

You may have seen some recent social media posts about the 2020 Luxe Magazine Red Awards honoring excellence, innovation and the best residential architecture, interior design and landscape architecture projects across the country. If you haven’t yet, please vote for LA Closet Design’s “Stylist Studio” featured in the “Wow-Factor Rooms” category!

Seeing this project again brought back so many fond memories. I loved working with celebrity stylist, Monica Rose, on creating a multi-functional work studio  where she can fit clients and also do other non-styling projects.  I caught up with Monica, who just launched a beautiful new site, and asked her some burning questions I know some of you must have, too!

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE, AND HOW DO YOU SEE THAT REFLECTED IN THE SPACE?

"My style is masculine with a touch of feminine, chic yet minimal. I love a neutral palette, and I love to mix vintage with modern. I also tend to gravitate toward a lot of marble and clean lines."

HOW HAS THIS SPACE DIFFERED FOR YOU FUNCTIONALLY FROM YOUR PAST STUDIOS?

“I never really had a chance to organize any of my studios. When I got this space I was like ‘What am I gonna do with this space?!’ It’s such a big space. My focus was that I wanted a beautiful studio, and I wanted it to be organized.”

WE COLLABORATED CLOSELY ON YOUR STUDIO CLOSET; NOW THAT YOU’VE BEEN USING IT DAY IN AND DAY OUT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART?

“I find myself spending so much time here! I would try not to be in my studio before. Now, everybody loves to be here. It’s nice to not have to apologize for the mess! The fitting room now is actually one of my favorites. I sit there, and do emails… Before, my fitting rooms always became storage rooms, but now with the curtains I keep it open all the time!”

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER THE ‘WOW-FACTOR’ OF THE STUDIO SPACE?

“The inspiration wall is SO great, because whenever I have clients come in, of course they get excited that they made the wall!”

HOW HAS THE DESIGN SIMPLIFIED / IMPROVED THE PROCESS OF PUTTING TOGETHER LOOKS?

“The problem is, we were always missing a boot, or something I was looking for! Now it’s so picture-perfect and clear, and we know where everything is! I have so many accessories I didn’t even realize I had before.”
