SECRET STORAGE WEAPONS

Closets (conveniently) hold clothes. That we know. But over the years, I’ve worked with clients to turn dressing rooms into so much more than a spot to stockpile garments. From storage to safes to stripper poles, the sky’s the limit when it comes to the fun things you can conceal in a closet.

Let’s start with some of the more obvious items:

Hampers -- We’ve come a long way from the days of plastic floor hampers. Today, hampers come in all shapes and sizes. And, with functional design, they can easily be concealed in a pull-out cabinet, retracting as if it's not even there. Don’t let dirty duds compromise your dressing room’s mojo!

PULL-OUT CABINETS -- IT MAY SEEM LIKE A SIMPLE SOLUTION, BUT A PULL-OUT CABINET CAN BE A CREATIVE WAY TO STORE ANY COLLECTION WITHOUT EATING UP VALUABLE REAL ESTATE IN THE CLOSET!

Safes -- Safes in closets aren’t new; but they’ve really evolved in terms OF design and technology (hello, biometric entry). Now, you can store your pricey pieces in stylish, state-of-the-art safes that blend seamlessly into your dressing room.

Ironing boards -- Ironing boards are bulky (and, not the most attractive piece of equipment). But, if you have the space, a pull-out ironing board that tucks away is a great option to keep your closet looking crisp . Besides, where better to iron your garments than in your closet?

A few of the more innovative items:

Jewelry cabinets -- I love helping clients finds ways to store jewelry in their closet. Whether a pullout drawer with custom inserts or a standing cabinet with hooks, there are a multitude of creative ways to store and conceal bling beyond the typical box.

Washer/dryer -- Washer/dryer hookups aren’t typically installed in a dressing room, but for those designing a home or closet from the ground up, this can be a great way to keep the space streamlined and the flow of the home clean.

Lastly, some of the most inventive:

Stripper pole -- Yes, you read that correctly. For clients who want to make their closet a little more risqué -- whether a stripper pole or wet bar -- we’ve made it happen. Whatever your fancy (or fantasy!) nothing’s impossible.

Safe room / panic room -- Whether dodging a tornado, robber or zombie (eeek!), some of today’s most advanced closets offer secret safe rooms. This Pacific Palisades pad has a safe room that can double as a seasonal closet. Obsessed!
